Terms of Use
Last updated: March 27, 2026
Acceptance
By accessing What The News (whatthenews.us), you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site.
What This Site Is
What The News provides statistical analysis of media coverage patterns. The site aggregates and analyzes publicly available data — it does not produce original journalism, and its analysis should not be taken as editorial endorsement or fact-checking of any outlet's reporting.
Tone scores measure advocacy intensity, not factual accuracy. A statement scored +5.0 and one scored −5.0 can both be factually correct.
Data Accuracy
We make reasonable efforts to ensure accuracy, but data is provided "as is" without warranty. Specific limitations:
- Salary figures are approximate, sourced from public reporting. They may not reflect current compensation.
- Tone scores are algorithmically derived and may not capture nuance, sarcasm, or context.
- GDELT coverage data reflects what GDELT indexes, which may not represent all published articles.
- Transcript extraction depends on YouTube's auto-generated or uploaded captions, which may contain errors.
- Legal records are reproduced from public filings. Quoted material reflects what was entered into the court record.
If you find an error, report it to contact@whatthenews.us. Corrections are applied promptly.
Content Licensing
Original analysis, visualizations, and site design are © 2026 What The News. All rights reserved.
Quoted statements from media personalities are reproduced for the purpose of criticism, commentary, and factual reporting under fair use. Each quote links to its original source for verification.
Media coverage data is sourced from the GDELT Project, which makes its data freely available for research and analysis.
API Terms
The What The News API is provided for integration with authorized ecosystem projects (currently The Honest Copy). API access is rate-limited. Excessive or abusive usage may result in temporary or permanent blocking.
If you wish to integrate with the API, contact us at contact@whatthenews.us.
Rate Limiting
To ensure availability, the site enforces rate limits on all requests. Automated scraping beyond normal browsing patterns may trigger temporary access restrictions.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms as needed. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
